Great! My 4G connection out in the wilderness is not making me any favors today. Fortunately there is a recording 😄 - Lukas10:49Feel free to still join us in the room in case the connection is good enough for audio (it should probably be)

- 11:10Marcus Österberg: i am still not sure, are we allowed to process the personal data of our employees?
- 11:10on an intranet i mean
- 11:11for example i want to know if Bob watched the pages about the christmas tree for employee children of the company
- tscott-dotT11:11Get Matomo set-up for SharePoint Online is very challenging. Any tips?
- ronanchardonneau11:12my wish being to know if Bob is interested by the advantage offered by the company and will maybe stay in the company thanks to its advantages
- Marcus Österberg@marcus:matomocamp.org11:12

I am not a lawyer, but, yes, if processing data is considered lawful according to the contract the employee signed. Or if your lawyers find they have a legitimate interest, or any of the other legal grounds. But consent is not the way to argue that it is legal. - ronanchardonneau11:13Ttscott-dot: he is the guy https://www.linkedin.com/in/lsittler/
- Marcus Österberg@marcus:matomocamp.org
- ronanchardonneau11:13Marcus Österberg: so legitimate interest i guess here, interest of the company
- 11:15Laurent Sittler is a sharepoint expert Ttscott-dot in the past Matomo was maintaining the integration but sharepoint is a machine moving and it is hard to follow up https://matomo.org/faq/how-to-install/faq_19424/
- Marcus Österberg@marcus:matomocamp.org11:15

Yeah, but the basis can be challenged by the employee. So it should not be a decision to be taken on a whim. - Tassoman11:16
In reply to this message
You are allowed if data usage is legitimated by GDPR, you must have explicit consent for example. Employees should be able do ask data removal etc etc - tscott-dotT11:17

ronanchardonneau: Thanks. We tried using the article with our IT provider - but they struggled to get it working (and were put off the lack of alternative documentation.) I am defo going to try again with them. - Massimo Camplone11:18very interesting, thank you!
- ronanchardonneau
- Marcus Österberg@marcus:matomocamp.org11:18

ronanchardonneau: here you also get into trickier subjects. Such as if Matomo is suitable to track if a user (employee) is a parent. Also there could be indirect location data.
These kind of details make the "legitimate interest"-discussion more interesting 😊 - ronanchardonneau11:18Ttscott-dot: so typically Laurent Sittler is the guy who can provide you some support, because it is a SP expertise.

I agree. Personal data is owned by people, organizations must be authorised (a) to use that for legitimate interests (f).
Every employee contract should make explicit which data are collected. Web surfing logs, for example - 11:21the problem is the amount of data has a huuge magnitude
- 11:21Tomas Persson joined the room
- Tassoman11:22starting from firewall logs, ending to matomo.js(edited)
- ronanchardonneau11:22thx, ok so I guess, the it department, within the contract, will mostly explain that they are monitoring for websites visited is for security reasons
- 11:22makes sense
- Marcus Österberg@marcus:matomocamp.org11:22
In reply to this message
Yes, and they are not automatically entitled to check which pages you are looking at on the organisation's intranet. - Tassoman11:23if you know wich user had an ip address at specific time (of course you know) you have a data handling
- Massimo Camplone11:23
In reply to this message
I was starting sql log and web log for debug and proxy log to control 😄 but shure this approach now is very interesting - ronanchardonneau11:24well i guess they have the user id on with the direct identifier
- 11:24to me seems like normal they give us an internet access provider access and expect us to not have a look at forbidden websites
- 11:25should be a place to study and not to perform something else right?
- Lukas11:26

And while I am not too familar with the details, I think in Austria employees have a right to privacy no matter if it is on their own devices or devices owned by the company - Tassoman11:27Imagine some student being phished for error. company should know where the threat has begun. indipendently by the user's willing
- Marcus Österberg@marcus:matomocamp.org11:27
In reply to this message
That part is probably legitimate. But that do not give them the right to evaluate which documents you download from the intranet.
And yes, having your intranet hosted in Sharepoint Online et al is not in line with the GDPR. I am discussing a intranet on-prem.
- ronanchardonneau11:27Seems like an equivalent of it is Liferay
- 11:28typically what some EU organizations are using
- Marcus Österberg@marcus:matomocamp.org11:28
In reply to this message
We had Liferay a couple of years at my previous employer. Pretty good. - 11:29In Sweden also Optimizely (Episerver) is common, as well as Sitevision.
- Tassoman11:30Ozzy/Charles slide was awesome XD
- Marcus Österberg@marcus:matomocamp.org
- Tassoman11:33starting with intranet analytics we enabled the user-id plugin but then disabled by DPO suggestion
- Tomas Persson11:33Really good Marcus!!
- Tassoman11:34then now we're anonymizing intranet ip addresses also
